School transport - 16-19 year olds

Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council residents are served by a network of reasonably priced and accessible transport.  In addition to rail services, students wishing to attend post-16 schools and colleges in neighbouring areas are served by frequent bus services to Manchester, Wigan and Bury.

Through GMPTE, a range of fare concessions are available for students, as detailed in the attached policy document in the Downloads section of this page. There is also a range of tickets to allow mixed modes of transport, using bus, rail and the Metrolink tram system. Fare concessions are available throughout Greater Manchester, making it possible for students to travel across local authority boundaries to colleges in neighbouring local authority areas.
