School - development plans

Local authorities have a statutory duty to ensure there are sufficient places for all children of school age, and part of the role of the team is to ensure that the provision of school places across the Borough meets the demands of those requiring them. We are also responsible for preparing and delivering the annual Children’s Services Capital Programme for the maintenance, modernisation and expansion of schools.

The Team (AMU)

AMU assist schools in planning and developing their school premises, with the aim of providing a safe, welcoming and stimulating learning environment.  We deal with capital funding, monitor expenditure and make recommendations on allocations to schools based on the prioritisation of need including supporting pupils with special needs.  We are closely involved in development projects at  all schools in Bolton including working in partnership with our Voluntary Aided Schools.

The team work closely with Corporate Property Services (CPS) who can provide help and guidance with technical matters, including commissioning work of a maintenance or development nature, and project managing.

The team are also responsible for advising on statutory policies and  the advising of emergency school closures.
