Although Bolton Council inspects our maintained highways at regular intervals and our process is robust and beyond national standards we still also rely on members of the public bringing to our attention possible hazards on the roads of Bolton.
Streetcare is a service provided by the Highways and Engineering Department so that members of the public can have direct contact with us. This service can be used to report a variety of highway issues including the following:
- Potholes and surfacing problems
- Street lighting issues

Our duty
The Council in complying with its duty to maintain its highways as outlined in section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 undertakes highway safety inspections of all its adopted highways at regular intervals.
Safety inspections are carried by our team of highway inspectors to specified frequencies, dependant upon the status of each highway. During the inspection problems identified which are at or exceed the minimum intervention levels as outlined within the code of practice, are identified and processed for repair.
