Repatriation is the returning of a body to its place of origin.

The coroner will notify you of the expected timescale four days from when your notice was received. In urgent situations it may be possible to bring this forward.

Other information

  • there are no restrictions on moving bodies within England and Wales
  • if you want to move the deceased to Scotland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or overseas you need to notify the coroner and complete the relevant documentation (form 104).
  • the coroner will also need to see any certificate for burial or cremation already issued
