The Mayor of Bolton for 2011 – 2012 is Councillor Noel Spencer MBE
Noel Spencer was first elected to Bolton Borough Council in 1970 and then as councillor for Farnworth in 1992 and has represented Farnworth continuously for the last 19 years. During his longstanding council career, he has held a number of positions connected with housing, including Chair of Housing Committee, Executive Member for Housing, Chair of the North West Housing Forum and most recently, Chair of Bolton at Home. Bolton born and bred, Councillor Spencer was an engineer by trade, but also spent time as a medic in the RAF. He will be joined by his partner Alice as Mayoress.
Councillor Spencer said: "I'm delighted and very proud to be chosen to represent the people of Bolton. It's a massive honour and I look forward to raising the profile of the borough and helping in whatever way I can to build up the town during my year in office," continuing the excellent work of past mayors.
During his time as Mayor, Councillor Spencer will be raising funds for three local charities connected with housing which is a cause close to his heart; Fortalice, which provides accommodation and support for victims of domestic violence; Urban Outreach, which works with homeless people and Kidz2gether which works with children with autism and autistic spectrum disorders. Bolton Home Start will also receive support.
Councillor Spencer anticipates a busy year ahead with mayoral duties but still hopes to fit in time for his main love: singing. He is a fan of Sinatra and other music of that era.
