Farnworth is at an exciting time in its development as a thriving and successful town.
The new Neighbourhood Management board is building on Farnworth’s existing strengths - most notably its people and its location - to create a unique and attractive community that is prosperous, healthy and sustainable. In other words, a great place to live.
And in Farnworth what makes a great place is what matters to the people who live here. Residents have told us what is important to them, what they want to change and the issues they want to tackle and it is now down to the board - which includes local residents, key organisations and councillors - to make it happen.
Not surprisingly, it is the little things that count. Litter and fly-tipping were identified as the key priorities - untidy streets and parks make a town look unloved. The Neighbourhood Management partners tackled this head on, made the streets and open spaces cleaner than ever and in turn, created a greater sense of pride in the area.
Improving the look of the streets has had some positive knock on effects. People feel safer, their confidence in the area has improved, and in turn their confidence in themselves. People are taking more control of their lives, becoming more involved in their hometown, finding out more about the courses open to them and taking all the opportunities available to improve their employment prospects.
We are also planning how we might improve our housing areas and streets to make them more attractive - through redesign and redevelopment rather than maintenance - so that as people become more successful, they stay in Farnworth.
And as Farnworth becomes more prosperous, health will improve and people will be more able to take the learning and employment opportunities available and feel better about themselves and where they live.
As we tackle more of the priorities and improve the town, we will continue to work closely with residents to enable the town to grow and develop as a successful neighbourhood. By doing this we will see our children doing better at school, achieving better grades and leaving to gain better jobs and have greater opportunities in life.
