Listed below are some of the paths that we believe are accessible to most people, including those using motorised buggies. It is not an exhaustive list, but represents some of the routes that lead to places of interest, or are just a pleasant walk in their own right.

  • Hall Lee Bank Park (Westhoughton)
  • Middlebrook Route
  • Moses Gate Country Park
  • Smithills Country Park
  • Horrocks Wood

Details of the routes can be accessed by logging into one of the following websites that Bolton Council contributes to walkswithwheelchairs.com and walkswithbuggies.com  These websites were created to form a national database of routes that are accessible to people who use a wheelchair, or who have small children and have to push a buggy.

By logging on you will be able to search for a route that fits one or more of the following criteria:

  • Location
  • Length
  • Gradient
  • Difficulty of the terrain
  • Circular route or there and back
  • Car parking
  • Toilet facilities
  • Pub/cafe nearby

In addition to the routes currently listed, Bolton Council intends to update newly upgraded routes to these websites as and when they are completed. One of the key aims for the Public Rights of Way Team is to make our footpaths and bridleways as easy for people to use as possible.
