Carers

An an adult and a carer

A carer is someone who looks after a relative, friend or neighbour, who needs support because of their sickness, age or disability. A carer doesn’t have to live with the person they are caring for; they might be juggling work and caring responsibilities or caring for someone who lives elsewhere. If you are new to caring, you are not alone. Thousands of people in Bolton take on new or greater caring responsibilities every year. Nationally there are 6 million carers, and it is estimated there are around 28,000 in the Bolton Borough.

There are many useful sources of help, from the Council, other local organisations, the NHS and other national sources. Here you will find information and links to topics ranging from getting a break to claiming benefits, from local support groups to online forums.
